Bio: Born and raised in Northern Ontario. I spent most of my summers boating and winters skating on the river in front of our house. I’m now a professional foodie/dietitian and owner of Peak Nutrition Consulting living in Fernie, BC.

Favorite Music:
Music is mood-dependant for me. My go-to for working, driving or hanging out is Indie; a few of my top artists would be James Vincent McMorrow, The Lumineers and Bon Iver. Oh – and I love anything Kygo or Spanish Reggaeton when I want some upbeat tunes for hiking or running!

Comfort Food:
Food, flavours and tastes are my passions in life – so this is probably the toughest question! My comfort food this winter is a power bowl filled with whatever veggies I have in my fridge, tofu, feta, lentils and a warm peanut dressing. Ask me next week though and you might get another answer!

What Animal Would I Be And Why:
Definitely a squirrel living in the mountains! They’re quick, independent and always running around and exploring. Plus, jumping from tree to tree is basically like flying!

How I Wash Away Stress:
Usually I’ll opt for a quick, hard run. It’s always “my time” of the day when I can listen to my favourite tunes or just zone out and push myself. Sometimes it can be pretty hard to get out the door – but the amazing adrenaline-fueled happiness and relaxation after is always worth it!

Favourite View In All My Travels:
This would have to be the view from the wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centre “Merazonia” in the Amazon rainforest of Ecuador. I’m not sure if it was the view, or the communal environment of volunteers from around the world getting together to spend their days sweaty, covered in mud and cleaning monkey poop – but it will always be my second home at heart.

Cherished Childhood Memory:
My family’s two-week boating trip every summer on beautiful Lake Superior. With new islands to explore every year, I never knew what to expect. Some years we would head to the North Shore and spend our days navigating the foggy water, exploring old lighthouses and huddling around a campfire in the evening. The next year we might be in the Apostle Islands climbing sand dunes, cliff diving into the lake and swimming through the sea caves. Wherever we went, I was always sad when school started in the fall.

Dream Retirement:
Living in a small log cabin in the mountains. Preferably with some husky pups to adventure with and a fresh lake nearby I can swim in. The seasons in the mountains are always changing; inviting new adventures every few months and fending off boredom. And a second home in Hawaii or South America wouldn’t be so bad for a few months of the year!

Advice I Would Give To People Looking To Travel:
Plan the basics, embrace the moments that don’t go as scheduled and go out and do it! I’ve met a lot of wanderlust travellers who say planning is unnecessary, but you’ll need to look into the basics like a general budget for travelling, food and accommodations. From there, let the travels take you where they may – some of my most cherished memories travelling are when I’ve missed a bus connection or lost a bag. You’ll learn to be resourceful and come home with some great stories to share. Oh, and don’t underestimate the benefits of slow travel. Driving is cheaper than flying, biking less expensive than driving…you get the idea. Plus, the slower you go usually makes awesome adventures!
