Nikora SmithBio: Half Maori Canadian raised in southern Alberta with a constant yearning to return to the Land of the Long White Cloud.
Favorite Music: Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Coldplay. Comfort Food: Sour cream and onion flavored popcorn with lemonade (not the Beyonce album). What Animal I Would Be And Why: A bear. Or a shark. Some kind of apex predator so that I could do what I want whenever I wanted to. How I Wash Away Stress: Generally that means tuning out all exterior thoughts and worries by listening to Echoes by Pink Floyd, or Ghost Stories by Coldplay, or jumping into a glacial pool/stream. Favourite View In All My Travels: My favourite view from all my travels is more of an experience than one particular place. Whether it's exploring the waters edge of Waterton Lakes National Park, or diving in the bay at Oakura in the New Zealand Northland, my favourite view is making it around the "next corner." You never know what is there until you make it, and as you get closer, more adventure is provided to you. Cherished Childhood Memory: Each year my family and I would take a trip to Payne Lake outside of Mountain View and participate in the annual Father's Day Fishing Derby there. It was a few days spent, rain or shine, on the lake, the air dripping with anticipation, ready to reel in "the big one". Though this might not have happened, I still look back at those weekends with some great memories of food, family, and fun. Dream Retirement: Live on our family land in New Zealand in a shipping container structure with a round door, garden on the roof, and a beach to go free diving in every morning. With an amazing wife at my side being visited by our children and grandchildren each year. Advice I Would Give To People Looking To Travel: I would advise anyone who would like to do the things I do to go places they've never been, and do things they've never done. Do things that make your soul feel fulfilled; be places where you feel make you more like the person you know you can be. Don't watch Netflix or play Pokemon Go, "go" outside and "net" yourself some memories! |
